| After driving around Moncton for years, it was time for me to move on. In August of 2003, I was purchased by Canadian Tire Merivale in Nepean, Ontario. It was time to put my mechanical restoration to the test. Since being rebuilt, I had been driven less than 7000 miles. Now I was going to be driven about 700 miles in just 12 hours! We left Shediac, a suburb of Moncton at about 4:00pm. We cruised comfortably at 70 mph down the Trans-Canada highway stopping every 250 miles to fill up the tank with gas. When I was built, my gas mileage was rated at 10 mpg and on this trip it was pretty close. As we drove passersby waved and gave a “thumbs-up”. Wherever we stopped, people would comment on how awesome I was and tried to guess my make and age. Most were close, but as recognizable as the car is to a “Car buff” most thought it was either a ‘57 or ‘58. Although I arrived in the Ottawa area in beautiful shape, like all old things, I still needed some tender loving care to make me perfect. First, the wiring for the lights and windows were replaced. The rear view mirror glass was redone and the interior dome light lenses were replaced. Many hours of cleaning were put in to make my interior shine. But that was just the beginning. After driving 700 miles without a glitch, two weeks after I arrived, my master cylinder began to leak. So in I went for a complete brake overhaul including wheel cylinders, shoes, rebuilt master cylinder and power brake booster. And then the fun began.... |
